In my opinion people are putting band-aides on a problem and not actually solving the actual issue. But may I ask why your company is dealing with or continues to deal with vendors (or outside sources) who sound like they are not following your design documentation? Reject the parts they make and force them to follow your designs and tolerance (no matter where there are listed on the drawing) or drop them as a provider.

My question: is it possible to make the automatically placed tolerance on a dimension "smart"? Can the tolerance be automatically determined and adjusted on the size of the dimension? In the norm, a general tolerance is specified, but this tolerance changes when the dimension changes. But! We don't want to throw out our ISO 2768 norm. Nothing new there, Inventor is perfectly capable of doing just that. Resulting in the same problems.īoth of these problems could be solved by automatically place tolerances when you place a dimension on drawing.
